Dr Isaac Chong Shares Composite Artistry at NDCS
On 12th March 2025, our Clinical Director, Dr Isaac Chong, was invited to present a lecture at the National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS), where he delivered “Composite Artistry: Restoring a Class IV Cavity with Composite Resin That Mimics Natural Dentition in Both Aesthetics and Function”.
This enriching lecture was a part of Dr Chong’s The Solution Series and delivered thought-provoking insights into composite artistry, an area that continues to evolve rapidly thanks to advancements in dental material science and technique.
The evening event was part of a continuing education series aimed at dental professionals looking to sharpen their restorative skills with a modern, clinically relevant approach. It was a proud moment for our team as Dr Chong shared techniques he has developed and refined over years of clinical practice— approaches that have helped many patients achieve natural-looking, long-lasting restorations.
Elevating Restorative Dentistry: A Summary of the Day
The lecture focused on tackling some of the most common yet challenging aspects of restorative care:
- Anterior Class IV restorations
- Posterior contact consistency
- Post-operative sensitivity management
- Achieving life-like aesthetics with composite resin
Through the lecture, Dr Chong demonstrated the level of detail and finesse needed to restore a tooth not just for function, but also for harmony and beauty within the smile.
Where Aesthetics Meet Function
Restorative dentistry continues to evolve rapidly, and this lecture highlighted just how far composite resin systems have come. In his presentation, Dr Chong demonstrated how to restore Class IV anterior cavities in a way that respects both the micro and macro aesthetics of a smile, bringing together science, precision, and an eye for detail.
Participants learned how to:
- Create incisal translucency with minimal materials
- Avoid post-operative sensitivity
- Achieve broad, tight proximal contacts with consistency
- Finish and polish restorations that rival the surface of glazed porcelain— all within a minute!
Dr Chong also introduced a new composite resin system, sharing practical tips on how to integrate it seamlessly into daily dental practice. The session covered both anterior and posterior restorations, offering attendees a comprehensive view of how to elevate their restorative outcomes with minimal adjustments to workflow.
A Collaborative Spirit in Dentistry
This lecture’s focus on collaboration and continued learning made it especially meaningful. Dr Chong, who is also a part-time tutor at the National University of Singapore and Vice President of the Aesthetic Dentistry Society of Singapore, is deeply committed to education. Over the years, Dr Chong has lectured in different Asian cities and values the opportunity to exchange knowledge with peers. He has received much from his mentors over the years and now seeks to give back to the dental community by sharing the insights and techniques he has refined through experience.
His vision for the lecture was to remind dental professionals how artistic and rewarding dentistry can be when guided by intention and thoughtful craftsmanship. For Dr Chong, education is not just about teaching, it’s about honouring the legacy of those who have taught him and paying it forward.
