Bring a valid ID, your insurance details, and any previous dental records if available (which you can email to us too!).

If it's your first time visiting us, we recommend arriving 10 minutes early to complete a short registration form. This helps ensure a smooth and timely visit for both you and our team!

During your first visit, we focus on getting to know you and understanding your oral health needs.

You’ll start by completing some essential forms, including your medical and dental history, to help us provide the most effective care.

Once we have your information, a comprehensive examination by our dentist-hygienist team will follow. This typically includes a thorough evaluation of your teeth, gums, and overall oral health, along with X-rays if needed to assess areas not visible during the exam.

Your dentist/ hygienist will then discuss any findings, answer your questions, and outline a personalised treatment plan if necessary.

This visit is also an excellent opportunity for you to share any concerns or goals you have for your dental care! Our team is here to make you feel comfortable and well-informed every step of the way.

We’re open Mondays to Saturdays and we are closed on Sundays and Public Holidays.

Our commitment to cleanliness and safety is reflected in the trust we place in our own clinic— we confidently treat our family and friends here, knowing it is maintained to the highest standards of hygiene and sterilisation. This ensures every patient receives care in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

Yes, we prioritise your comfort during dental treatments and offer local anesthesia at our clinic to ensure a pain-free experience. Local anesthesia numbs the specific area being treated, making the procedure as comfortable as possible.

For patients requiring deeper sedation, such as general anesthesia or IV sedation, we can refer you to a trusted hospital or specialised clinic. These options may be suitable for highly anxious patients or those undergoing more complex procedures. If you have concerns about pain management or sedation, we’re happy to discuss your options and ensure you feel supported throughout your dental care journey.

Children should have their first dental visit by the age of 1!

This early visit is important for several reasons:

  1. Your child's dentist/ hygienist will check for early signs of dental problems, such as cavities, developmental issues, or teething concerns.
  2. A great opportunity to discuss proper oral hygiene practices and how to handle teething.
  3. Early visits help familiarise children with the dental office, reducing the likelihood of dental anxiety.

We recommend scheduling an appointment to ensure availability though we may accept walk-ins if the dentist is available.

Yes, dental X-rays are generally very safe. In fact, the amount of radiation you’re exposed to during a routine dental X-ray is low, even less than what you’d get from a short flight!

We use digital X-ray technology, which minimises exposure while helping your dentist spot issues early, before they become bigger (and more expensive) problems.

You don't need dental X-rays at every visit. X-rays are usually taken when necessary, such as during annual dental check-ups to spot cavities or gum disease that can’t be detected by the naked eye, even with magnification, or if you're consulting about wisdom teeth or orthodontic treatment.

We provide medical certificates (MCs) for patients who undergo invasive treatments, such as tooth extractions or dental surgery.

For patients who need proof of attending a dental appointment for routine check-ups, cleanings, fillings, etc., we can offer a time chit.

We accept most major insurance plans. Our team will happily assist in verifying your coverage if you’re unsure.

We also offer flexible payment options, including credit cards, debit cards, and interest-free payment plans such as Atome for certain treatments.

Every insurance plan covers different dental treatments, and the extent of coverage depends on the specific policy. It’s always best to check with your insurance provider or us to understand what is covered under your specific plan.

Yes, you can use Medisave for surgeries such as wisdom tooth surgical extraction or dental implants. It's best to check with your attending dentist for the specifics of what can be claimed under your Medisave account.

Yes, you can use your CHAS (Community Health Assist Scheme) cards, including Merdeka and Pioneer cards, for certain dental treatments in Canaan.

Yes, professional teeth whitening is a safe and effective way to enhance your smile when performed under the supervision of a dental professional.

The whitening agents used in professional treatments are carefully formulated and applied to minimize risks while delivering noticeable results. However, some patients may experience temporary side effects, such as tooth sensitivity or minor gum irritation, which usually subside within a few days.

To ensure the best outcome, it’s essential to follow your dentist’s recommendations and avoid over-the-counter products that may not be as controlled or tailored to your needs. Your dentist will assess your oral health beforehand to determine if teeth whitening is suitable for you and help you achieve a brighter smile safely.

Our clinic provides comprehensive dental care, including general dentistry (check-ups, fillings, and cleanings), cosmetic dentistry (teeth whitening and veneers), preventive care, root canal treatment, orthodontics, and more.

Fissure sealants are a preventive dental treatment that protect the pits and grooves of your teeth, which are more vulnerable to cavities because of their grooves and pits.

Yes, we do! Root canal treatment (RCT) is usually needed when the pulp (the tooth’s nerve) becomes infected or inflamed, often due to severe decay or injury.

Preventing cavities and gum disease starts with maintaining a strong oral hygiene routine.

  • Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste to keep them strong and healthy.

  • Take your time— aim for at least 3 minutes to clean all the surfaces of your teeth properly.

  • Floss at least once a day to remove food and plaque from between your teeth and under the gumline. Your toothbrush can’t reach these spots!

  • Eat a balanced diet and try to limit sugary or acidic snacks and drinks. They can wear down your teeth and cause cavities.

  • Drink lots of water throughout the day to wash away food bits and keep your mouth feeling fresh.

  • See your dentist regularly for checkups and cleanings. Early care can prevent bigger problems later and save you money!

  • Only your dentist or dental hygienist can remove tartar buildup, so don’t skip your professional cleans!

By combining these habits, you can significantly reduce the risk of cavities and gum disease while maintaining a healthy, confident smile.

Bleeding gums are not normal and may indicate an underlying gum condition. Early detection and treatment can help prevent complications such as gum disease and tooth loss. If you're experiencing bleeding gums, be sure to inform your dentist or hygienist.

You can start using fluoridated toothpaste when your child turns 3, as long as they are able to spit it out.

After the age of 2, you can introduce a small amount of fluoride toothpaste, about the size of a grain of rice. As long as your child can spit it out and not swallow it, you can gradually increase the amount to a pea-sized portion.

Fluoride helps prevent cavities and strengthens teeth, but it's important to ensure they don’t swallow too much toothpaste.

Together, our team works to ensure that every patient receives the highest quality care tailored to their individual needs.

Meet the Team.

A dental hygienist is a trained oral health professional specialising in preventive care to maintain the health of your teeth and gums.

Learn more about a dental hygienist's workscope.

At Canaan Dental, our dentists and hygienists work together to provide comprehensive care. Your hygienist focuses on removing plaque and tartar buildup through scaling and polishing, helping prevent gum disease and cavities. They also provide personalised oral hygiene guidance to help you maintain your oral health at home.

Your dentist examines your teeth, gums, and bite, checking for cavities, infections, and other dental concerns that may require treatment. Since the hygienist has already cleaned your teeth and gums, the dentist can conduct a clearer, more detailed examination and focus on diagnosis and treatment planning.

This team-based approach streamlines your care, reducing waiting times for treatments while ensuring your teeth and gums stay healthy. Regular hygiene visits lower the risk of future dental issues and make any necessary treatments smoother and more effective as well!
